Start Planning and Cutoff Timing

We understand that completing an event can be a challenge, and we want to ensure that all riders have the best chance to finish comfortably within the designated cutoff times. If you anticipate needing eight hours or more to complete the ride, we strongly encourage you to start early. Please remember to inform the event organizer or the timer if you do start early, so we can accurately track your timing.

It's important to note that the Hwy. M aid station will close at 2 PM. Once it closes, we recommend that you consider wrapping up your ride for the day. If you need to head back to Cable, take a right on Hwy. M on the paved road. Just let the timer know that you missed the cutoff for the aid station. However, if you feel prepared to continue on your own, please make sure you are equipped to finish without support, as we will begin sweeping the course after that time. We truly appreciate your understanding and wish you a safe and enjoyable ride!

Timing and Awards

We’re thrilled to share that this year, every participant will be timed! This important decision prioritizes the safety of all riders, especially with 1,000 participants spread out over 100 miles. To enhance your experience, Endurance Promotions will implement computerized chip timing for the 2025 Hungry Bear 100 Gravel Races. Join us for an unforgettable ride! Award medals will be given to the top 3 men and women in each event category. Winners will have their names placed on the new Hungry Bear traveling trophy, which is coming soon!

Finish Location

We will be set up at the park area between The Portage, Rivers Eatery, and Tilly’s Pies. The RWGPS app/GPX tracks will lead you to the finish. All riders can pre-order pie, so they have a slice waiting at the finish. Music will be playing during the day: Rivers Eatery, Ghost the Coyote from 12-2 p.m., Sugarhound from 2-5 p.m., Portage, The Brothers Burn Mountain from 3-6 p.m.

Aid Stations

There will be two official aid stations on the course, but remember to carry enough food and water to finish. One will be just past the Lincoln Community Forest around mile 26 of the 100-mile course. The other will be just as riders cross M, around the 67-mile mark for the 100-mile route and the 30-mile mark for the Snacking Bear.

“Loved the celebration zone at the finish and how you included the local business in the event. It had a great small-town community feel.” - Hungry Bear 2024 Racer

“The after party vibe with music was great. People just hung around and chilled more than I’ve seen at the other races I’ve done. Please don’t change the post race vibe. :-).” - Hungry Bear 2024 Racer

Route Marking and Navigation

Historically, our course was unmarked. To enhance the rider's experience, we have marked the routes with clear course markings, featuring vibrant route arrows on the pavement and strategically placed arrow cards throughout. We highly encourage you to use GPS navigation and download the routes to your phone or GPS device before the race to make the most of your journey.

For 2025, the routes will broadly reflect those of 2024, including the popular Climbing Cub option. Please keep in mind that all courses will remain open to traffic, so it's essential to follow the rules of the road and stay alert for other road users. Embrace the challenge, and we can't wait to see you out there!

2025 Hungry Bear Routes

The Hungry Bear 100, Snacking Bear 60, or the Climbing Cub, all routes will serve up a challenge and give you a taste of the fortified gravel we have in Wisconsin’s Northwoods. Make a note of the new finish in the park area between The Portage, Rivers Eatery, and Tilly’s Pies.
